As part of the centenary celebrations of Jean Paul Riopelle, this short video film was conceived by Stéphanie Jasmin as an intimate exploration of the act of looking: the artist’s gaze upon his own works, and that of the viewer admiring them in the exhibition space or elsewhere.
In this silent encounter between self and artwork, these figures seen from behind draw us into the path and movement of their gaze, leading us deep into the pictorial space.
This striking projection, accompanied by an original score by Philippe Brault, will illuminate a wall in Old Montreal, inviting us to slow our pace and, in turn, immerse our gaze in the painter’s work.
